2024 ARTISTS OF THE FUTURE

anthony james

2024 ARTIST OF THE FUTURE

Born in 1974 in London and currently based in Los Angeles, California, James is a graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. His distinguished reputation is forged through monumental sculptures and installations that seamlessly embrace the principles of Minimalism, Transcendentalism, and Light & Space.

In the winter of 2023, James achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first and only visual artist to exhibit work on all seven continents. His installation of a stainless steel, glass, and LED Portal at White Desert’s base camp in Antarctica, near the South Pole, marked a pivotal moment in his illustrious career.

James’s iconic Portal Icosahedron is prominently displayed in our first-floor galleries, and has become synonymous with the Imagine Museum experience. Join us in honoring the inspiring work of Anthony James, whose creations not only inspire, but push the boundaries of glass as a medium.

Often his sculptures are balanced on edge seeming to defy gravity.  His Fractograph series takes a more conceptual approach to the material. Different methods including impact and thermal shock are used to shatter a perfectly polished optic block. The sometimes-powerful explosion are filmed in slow motion and exhibited along with the reconstructed blocks.

As one of our 2024 Artists of the Future, we are thrilled to present John Kiley to our museum’s community. Kiley’s work has been a staple of Imagine Museum’s permanent collection, and his significant contributions to the experimental nature of the Studio Glass Movement have profoundly impacted the landscape of the Contemporary Glass Art World.

JOHN KILEY

2024 ARTIST OF THE FUTURE

John Kiley is an American Master Glass artist based in Seattle, WA and San Francisco, CA. Within his work, Kiley uses primary geometric forms as the architecture for his glass sculptures. In his spherical forms, juxtaposed colors and carved optic passageways create a separation of space, allowing the viewer to peer into and through the form.

FEATURED ARTIST

Louis Markoya

Louis Markoya, a former protégé of the master surrealist Salvador Dalí, is a multi-media artist and engineer who melds modern technology wit classical art. Within his studio practice, Markoya initiates his creative process digitally, using the computer to visualize his concepts before translating them onto canvas.

Aligned with Imagine Museum’s mission to inspire, uplift, and educate, over a dozen of Markoya’s interactive lenticular prints will grace our galleries from February to July 2024. This immersive installation invites viewers to delve into Markoya’s intriguing cerebral realm, expertly weaving together notions of human thought and emotions, imagination and limitless possibilities.
